Healthy Eating

Eating healthy means you eat a variety of foods, foods that provide you with enough nutrients, including protein, carbs, fat, water, vitamins and minerals, to maintain your health, feel good, and have energy.

Healthy eating is the cornerstone of good health and wellness. It fuels our bodies, improving our mental health, cognitive function, muscle, tissue, bone development and maintenance, oral health, skin, and hair.  And when it comes to chronic illnesses, healthy eating can help prevent cardiovascular disease, obesity, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, stroke, and other types of cancer.

When we don’t have access to healthy foods, we make the affordable, convenient, and, often times, unhealthy choices. Marshall is what’s called a “food desert,” which is defined by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) as “areas that lack access to affordable fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lowfat milk, and other foods that make up the full range of a healthy diet.” A key factor keeping these foods from Marshall is transportation. Healthy eating is a lifestyle, not a fad, so it requires continually making the choice to eat healthy and to learn and do more.

Healthy56258 is committed to helping the Marshall community through improved access to healthy eating options. This includes not only providing better options in our schools and at work, but increasing the access to these options within our community.

As part of our mission, we’re making healthier options more accessible. But unless you know about the options, you may never utilize them.

Take a stroll through our website to find more information about access to healthier foods in the Marshall area.
